Today I travelled into the future with Humber PR…at Zach Sandor-Kerr’s and Jenna Stother’s well put together…
FUTURE CAMP
Facebook, Twitter, email…how will we all in keep in touch? It speaks volumes that my Humber PR class still has one semester to go and we are already discussing ways that we will stay connected.
Spending 30+ hours a week together speeds up relationships quickly…who knows what a summer together will bring. Our class sat in a horseshoe in the areas of PR we wanted to work in. Though I’m interested in non-profit and am currently volunteering as a media team member with the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CCFF), I choose to sit in Arts & Entertainment section as its also an area of interest. It was difficult to choose as I don’t want to pigeon-hole myself and have a broad interest in many areas of PR (and my secret dream is to work for a brewing company…shhh don’t tell).
We decided on the Twitter tag #YnotW for out get togethers. Why Not Wednesday’s is the name of our Wednesday boozy get togethers, and we’d love to keep them going once we’ve graduated. Tonight’s end of semester party at Hemingway’s should be a good end-of-semester blow out!
Keeping in touch will not only nurture the relationships we have made but will help us network and share job opportunities and the direction our (illustrious!) careers have taken. Jeff has also set up a SummerCamp Facebook group for a summer of softball and soccer with our 2C colleagues.
And then there’s the time capsule…a digital one. We’re sending submissions to humber.future@gmail.com and will reopen those submissions five years down the road. The get together setting will depend on well…what the future brings! (Wild weekend in Vegas anyone?)
So let’s keep in touch guys…we can add value, stay connected and generally revel in our awesomeness.
And with that, the semester ends…I’m off to Puerto Vallarta for a week, but when I get back, get ready blog – your mine!
*UPDATE* Why Not Wednesday was a huge success…which unfortunately means that Hangover Thursday has begun!
